Bryan Park Development Update
With the completion of the new Tryon Branch Library, staff is now working to develop Bryan Park. This project is not expected to be completed before he end of the year. Two major tasks are currently being undertaken.
Park Drainage:
The new drainage system has been completely installed and the drainage problem seems to be fixed. Prior to the new drainage system, when it rained, the undeveloped park grounds did not drain very well and puddles would form throughout the property.
Purchase and Installation of Children's Playground Equipment:
In an effort to find out what type of playground equipment community children would like to play on, a workshop with 15 youth was recently held. Staff showed the attending youth 30 different types of playground equipment. Each child was given 10 red dots to place on the play equipment that they wanted to see purchased. The top ten playground units has been identified and staff is currently looking into the cost of each equipment.
Home Depot has shown interest in Bryan Park and would like to build a mock Pirate Ship at the Park. Home Depot and our Parks and Building Maintenance Departments are currently working closely to develop plans for the ship.
On August 21, 2010 the Broadview Farms Neighborhood Association and a group of students from NAS Pensacola participated in a City Wide Beautification Day at Bryan Park. The participants cleaned up the medians along Langley Avenue by picking up litter and trimming trees, removed large pieces of concrete and debris from Bryan Park, trimmed over growth around the trees with in the park, and pulled weeds in the plant beds. A few pictures from the clean up day are posted below. A special thank you goes out to all of those who participated in the Saturday morning clean up.
If you have any questions on any of the planned improvements listed, please contact the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department at (850) 436-5679.
